M-22 is a state highway in Michigan that is 116.6 miles long and follows the Lake Michigan shoreline through the counties of Manistee, Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse. It’s northern beginning is in Traverse City and ends further south in Manistee. After going around Portage Lake in Onekama (oh-NEK-ə-mə) it turns further inland from Lake Michigan until it stops at US Route 31 in Manistee.
These are just a few of some of the beautiful views and places to visit along M-22 or just right off M-22. In my personal opinion, it is the most beautiful drive in the whole state of Michigan. You should check it out for yourself someday!
I have traveled this road literally thousands and thousands of times in my life, I grew up on it!!
Since I moved away nine years ago, the M-22 road sign has become the logo for a surfing store. I must have traveled that road million times in my life and I never would have imagined that it would become a brand some day. Not to mention that there would be surfing on Lake Michigan. I am glad it is finally being recognized for all the beauty it has surrounding its pavement.
